At 9:35 a.m., police responded to Bank of America at 1 Springfield Ave. on a call of a man inside the bank with a firearm, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
The suspect had opened a bag, exposing a long gun to a teller before exiting the bank, Fragé said. .
Minutes later, another officer was flagged down by an individual who reported that a suspect had robbed a business at Branford Place, Fragé said.. The description of the suspect in the Branford Place business robbery matches the description of the man with the firearm at Bank of America, Fragé said.
Both incidents remain under investigation, Fragé said.
